Linear's own remote MCP: Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1, find/create/update on issues, projects, comments. A /readonly URL exists so you do not have to hand the agent a write token. No extra MCP seat — you already pay Linear.

Strengths

  • Official hosted server at mcp.linear.app, not a community wrapper.
  • Separate /readonly URL; read OAuth scope cannot reach write APIs.
  • Native in Claude, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed; mcp-remote for older clients.

Known limitations

  • Hosted-only; your Linear workspace leaves the machine.
  • Default /mcp is read-write. Use /mcp/readonly if the agent should not file issues.
  • No separate MCP price, but Linear Free is still 2 teams / 250 issues.

Use it when

  • Coding agents that triage Linear issues or open tickets from a session.
  • Hosts that speak remote MCP and should not run a local Linear binary.

Skip it when

  • The team lives in GitHub Issues — use GitHub MCP, not this.
  • You will not give an agent write on the tracker — then use /mcp/readonly only.
  • You needed self-hosted Linear; this server is Linear's cloud.
