The docs MCP people actually keep on: resolve a library, pull current examples, stop hallucinating last year's API. Hosted at mcp.context7.com. Free is 1,000 calls/month; it used to be much higher. Queries go to Upstash.

Strengths

  • Current, version-specific library docs instead of training-cut snapshots.
  • Hosted Streamable HTTP plus a local npm/stdio option; npx ctx7 setup.
  • MIT server, OAuth or API key, works across Cursor / Claude / VS Code.

Known limitations

  • Free tier is 1,000 API calls/month (cut hard in Jan 2026, now 1,000 + 20/day bonus after cap).
  • All queries route through Upstash; library name and query text leave the machine.
  • Pro is $10/seat/mo then $10 per 1,000 extra calls.

Use it when

  • Coding agents that keep inventing APIs the package no longer has.
  • Public-repo library work on the free 1,000-call month.

Skip it when

  • 1,000 free calls/month will not cover a "always use Context7" rule.
  • The repo cannot leave your machine; there is no offline mode.
  • You need private-repo parsing — that is Pro, billed extra.
