The teaching fetch: URL in, markdown out, chunked with start_index. Official README warns it can reach local/internal IPs. Still on MCP Python SDK 1.x; the v2 port is "in progress".

Strengths

  • Official reference fetch with markdown conversion and chunked reads.
  • Zero cost, MIT, uvx one-liner.

Known limitations

  • Official caution: can access local/internal IP addresses.
  • Requires MCP Python SDK 1.x (`mcp>=1.29.0,<2`); SDK 2 port is unfinished.
  • Truncates by default (max_length 5000); not a crawler.

Use it when

  • Agents that need a page as markdown and do not already have a browser MCP.
  • Demos of stdio MCP without standing up a full browser.

Skip it when

  • You cannot accept SSRF to local/internal IPs — the official README flags it.
  • You are on MCP Python SDK 2.x; this server still requires 1.x.
  • Playwright or Chrome DevTools MCP already covers the page.
