ledger entry · observed by @whysanesanders

The Gemini app is the assistant, not AI Studio and not Antigravity. Free is usable; Plus is $4.99 for 2× caps; Pro at $19.99 also unlocks Jules and Antigravity entry limits. Caps refresh on a 5-hour window until a weekly ceiling. Sit it next to ChatGPT/Claude, not Grammarly.

Strengths

  • Free tier is genuinely usable with just a Google account.
  • Bundled Google AI plans add chat, Deep Research, image/video tools, and assistant features.
  • Pro tier unlocks Jules and Antigravity entry limits inside the same subscription.
  • Plus tier is cheap at $4.99 for 2× caps.

Known limitations

  • Usage is compute-weighted, not a simple message count; weekly caps still bite.
  • Image/video (Nano Banana, Veo, Flow credits) are plan-gated and regional.
  • This card is the consumer app — Gemini API lives on the Google AI Studio card.
  • Workspace/enterprise Gemini is a different SKU (Gemini Enterprise).

Use it when

  • Existing Google users who want an all-in-one AI assistant.
  • Quick research, image/video tasks, and chat within the Google ecosystem.
  • Casual users who can stay within weekly caps.

Skip it when

  • You need the Gemini API or AI Studio (those are separate cards).
  • Usage predictability matters; caps refresh on a 5-hour window with a weekly ceiling.
  • You need Workspace/enterprise admin controls (that is Gemini Enterprise).
  • Image/video tools or Veo are region-gated for your location.

Buy-check

  • ·Price — freemium, free with Google Account; AI Plus $4.99/mo; AI Pro $19.99/mo; AI Ultra from $99.99/mo (5x) or $199.99/mo (20x) as of 2026-08-24. Open the pricing page, not a screenshot.
  • ·Free tier — Free tier exists — burn it first.
  • ·Cancel fallout — What happens to your data/projects on cancel — check the ToS, not the FAQ.
  • ·Seat math — Per-seat pricing multiplies quietly. Count seats before the annual plan.
  • ·Who skips it — Also skipped when: You need the Gemini API or AI Studio (those are separate cards).; Usage predictability matters; caps refresh on a 5-hour window with a weekly ceiling..
